FRILO 2023-1: The latest version saves time and contributes to climate efficiency
FRILO Software GmbH has successfully delivered the software version 2023-1. With the update, the vendor of innovative solutions for structural analysis and design launches four new PLUS programs – including DLT Continuous Beam. Moreover, an interface between SCIA Engineer and FRILO software ensures significantly more efficiency in the design of masonry structures.
The highlight of the new FRILO version is the provision of the completely reworked DLT Continuous Beam program as a PLUS version. The DLT program allows the calculation of single-span and continuous beams that can be made of reinforced concrete, steel or timber. Any number of spans can be defined and the beam can be cantilevered or without cantilevers. This most widely used FRILO solution was transferred to the modern, user-friendly PLUS interface in the course of the update. With the help of the interactive graphical user interface, system dimensions can now be adjusted quickly and conveniently using adaptive dimensional chains. Another special feature is the new interactive and intuitive reinforcement layout, which can be used to create individually designed reinforcement diagrams. With all the innovations, however, the unique selling point of DLT+ consisting of the easy switch-over between the materials timber, steel or reinforced concrete is retained.
New special solution for steel construction
With the programs S8+ Steel Chimney Design and ATB+ Antenna Mast Design, two smart special solutions for steel construction have been developed. These two new FRILO programs allow structural engineers to calculate easily and reliably chimneys according to DIN EN 1993-3-2 and antenna masts according to DIN EN 1993-3-1. The solutions are tailored to the special requirements involved in the design of the relevant structures and offer the modern, user-friendly PLUS interface. In particular, the automatic determination of wind loads as well as the determination of equivalent forces due to vortex-excited transverse vibrations offer users great added value.
Efficient design of masonry structures with SCIA and FRILO
Based on a 3D model in SCIA Engineer, users can now simply extract individual walls and wall sections and transfer them to the FRILO Masonry program MWX+ via the newly programmed interface. All information on materials, load cases and actions as well as the boundary conditions already known in the 3D model of SCIA are automatically included in the transfer. Thus, the user needs not enter these data again in the FRILO program. This saves time and reduces sources of error. In MWX+, the user can perform easily and reliably the corresponding verifications for the structural safety of individual walls. “With the new workflow, SCIA and FRILO bring together the advantages of both software solutions to ensure a highly efficient way of working in the design of masonry structures,” says Markus Gallenberger, CEO of both companies.
Design of foundations and frame corners made of timber
With the new FD+ PRO add-on module, the performance scope for foundation design has been significantly expanded. For various limit states, special foundation verifications and verification techniques as well as additional options for the load application and the geometry definition were added. With the new PLUS program HO6+ Frame Corner, joints of bending-resistant frame corners of portal trusses made of glulam can be designed using bar dowels in a circular arrangement (one or two circles), dowels of special design or wedge finger-jointed connections (one or two joints).
Design of carbon concrete with CARBOrefit®
CARBOrefit® is an innovative process for reinforcing reinforced concrete with carbon concrete. For rectangular cross-sections subject to uniaxial bending stress, the latest FRILO version now allows users to define reinforcements according to the CARBOrefit® approval of the building authorities to increase the bending load resistance. In cooperating with CARBOCON GmbH, FRILO as a software vendor paves the way to more sustainability and climate efficiency in the construction industry. “CARBOrefit® offers an economical and resource-saving process to reinforce with carbon concrete in line with the regulations of the building authorities. Therefore, we are pleased to have implemented the first corresponding verifications in our software and to expand our offer step by step together with CARBOCON”, says Markus Gallenberger and adds: “The many new features and innovations support structural engineers in making their busy everyday work more efficient.”
